Rubber Ducky 1st B-day

Lukas’ 1st birthday was fantastic. Of course it was the typical just adults and older cousins. He was running a fever that day but it didn’t keep the festivities from happening. He was fascinated by any and all rubber ducks. This is when they were everywhere. The ones with the blinking lights came out that year too. He had about a gazillion rubber ducks at our house and another gazillion at grandmas house. After all he was the 1st baby in the family.

I used to teach and asked the art teacher at my school to make this banner. I loved how it turned out. Especially b/c he asked some of his students to help with it and some of the girls that worked on it were in my YW’s.

I bought the duck bath at Kmart. My family aren’t big punch drinkers. So this turned out easy and great. Filled it with ice and threw some soda cans in. I also used a duck cookie cutter and cut out a sponge shape into a duck and then dipped it in yellow paint and outlined the edges of the white tablecloth (paper). This step I even did with the tablecloth on the table.

The cake is handmade. I made a large size sheet cake and then poster-sized a duck pic and put it over the sheet cake. I then cut it out with a serrated knife. I bought a chocolate duck mold at Michaels. I made the little duck cakes using a cookie cookie. I used the extras from the large sheet cake. I thought frosting the duck would be extremely difficult, but I was surprised at how easy it was.

There were 2 pinatas at the party. A big duck for all the adults and this little one. I don’t remember where I found it, but I loved it. It was perfect for Lukas. You can probably tell the size compared to Daddy’s head.

These are the invites I did. I just snapped a pic of him in the tub and printed it off on 4 by 6 cards. Easy Peasy!
